SAFFRON PISTILS

They are the result of slow and traditional cultivation and harvesting. The pistils are obtained from the dried flower, collected strictly by hand to avoid damaging the other parts of the plant. Each flower has only three pistils. To produce one kilo of saffron, approximately 170,000 flowers must be harvested manually in six weeks (flowering period) and to keep the properties of the spice unchanged, it must be collected during the first hours of the morning.d.
